- In 1983, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) filed an administrative complaint against Shaklee, alleging deceptive practices in connection with their multi-level marketing program for distributors. Shaklee eventually settled with the FTC without admitting any wrongdoing, agreeing to make changes to their marketing practices.
- In 2003, a group of Shaklee distributors filed a lawsuit against the company alleging breach of contract, breach of the covenant of good faith and fair dealing, fraud, deceit, and wrongful termination of their distributorships.
