Evaluation of ingredients

Cyruta Plus contains the following active ingredients per serving (1 tablet):

  • Vitamin C 3 mg (from buckwheat)
  • Proprietary blend [dried buckwheat (leaf) juice, buckwheat (seed), bovine adrenal Cytosol extract, and oat flour) 308 mg

Inactive ingredients include calcium stearate, ascorbic acid, and honey.

What Is The Difference Between Cyruta and Cyruta Plus?

The primary difference between these two products is that Cyruta Plus contains additional ingredients to support cardiovascular health, while Cyruta is focused solely on promoting healthy blood flow.

Cyruta contains a proprietary blend of buckwheat leaf juice and buckwheat seed, which are believed to support healthy blood vessel function and promote circulation. Cyruta Plus, on the other hand, contains the same buckwheat blend, as well as additional ingredients such as niacin, vitamin C, and bovine adrenal, which are intended to support cardiovascular health and enhance the body’s natural response to stress.

Cyruta Plus does not contain inositol, while Cyruta does. Inositol is an important nutrient that supports cardiovascular health and helps maintain healthy blood vessels. Cyruta is known for its ability to clear the arteries, while Cyruta Plus is considered a maintainer. Cyruta contains 80mg of inositol per tablet, while Cyruta Plus does not contain this key ingredient.

Overall, both Cyruta and Cyruta Plus are designed to promote healthy blood flow and support cardiovascular health, but Cyruta Plus contains additional ingredients to address specific concerns related to heart health. It is important to consult a healthcare professional before taking any new supplements or making changes to your diet or lifestyle.

How it works

This next part of our Standard Process Cyruta Plus review will analyze some core active ingredients included in the formula.

Vitamin C (3 mg)

According to available research data and scientists, vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins. While it may not be the miraculous cure for the common cold, the benefits of vitamin C extend far beyond that.

Research shows that vitamin C may protect against cardiovascular disease, immune system deficiencies, eye disease, prenatal health problems, and even skin wrinkling. In addition, vitamin C provides strong antioxidant support by defending cells – including immune cells – from free-radical damage.

Despite its numerous benefits, in a recent troubling statistic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that over 7% of the U.S. population does not get enough vitamin C from diet alone.

Vitamin C also plays a role in cognitive function and neurotransmitter synthesis. Neurotransmitters are needed for sending messages from the brain to the rest of the body. And more vitamin C may be linked with enhanced cognitive function.

For instance, a systematic review published in September 2017 in Nutrients explained how elevated vitamin C concentrations were observed in cognitively intact study participants versus those with impaired cognition. Scientists concluded that low vitamin C amounts might be linked with several cognitive decline conditions.

Proprietary blend (308 mg)

Now, the most crucial part of the Cyruta Plus formulation is the proprietary blend (308 mg) consisting of a combination of three ingredients: bovine adrenal extract (Cytosol), buckwheat, and oat flour.

Let’s start with the bovine extract. Cytosol, also known as groundplasm, intracellular fluid (ICF), or cytoplasmic matrix, is the liquid found inside cells.

The adrenal gland is one of the organs that support the immune system by producing essential immune cells, such as T-cells. Furthermore, clinical research proves that adrenal extracts from animals may support proper functions of the adrenal gland in humans.

Generally, adrenal extracts are used for weakened and enlarged heart (dilated cardiomyopathy), hay fever, airways infection, flu, food allergies, the common cold, asthma, and many other conditions.

However, in some cases, scientific proof is lacking, and further research is required.

Buckwheat is a highly nutritious whole grain regarded by many as a superfood. Amongst its health benefits, buckwheat may help manage diabetes, aid weight loss, and promote heart health.

It is also a great source of energy, fiber, and protein. In addition, it does not contain gluten, so buckwheat flour and buckwheat seeds are excellent dietary alternatives for individuals with gluten intolerances or celiac disease.

In dietary supplements and diet plans, buckwheat is commonly used to:

  • Boost heart health – As a whole grain, buckwheat can improve your heart health. According to the American Heart Association (AHA), at least half the grains in a person’s diet should be whole grains. This is because whole-grain foods contain nutrients essential for heart health, including niacin and fiber.
  • Improve digestion – Buckwheat is rich in dietary fiber, a plant-based carbohydrate that the body can’t break down during digestion. Fiber helps the intestines in digesting food more efficiently and helps food transit through the digestive tract.
  • Help weight management – Buckwheat contains large amounts of protein. Studies have found that high-protein foods are necessary for weight management because they lead to greater satiety with fewer calories than other varieties of food.
  • Manage diabetes – As a whole grain, buckwheat is an excellent source of complex carbohydrates to help consumers control their blood glucose levels.

Oat flour comes from oats (Avena sativa), a cereal grain grown for its seed. Oats thrive in temperate climates.

Oats are considered safe for those with gluten intolerance or a gluten allergy, much less likely to cause adverse reactions, and more manageable for most people to digest.

Studies show that incorporating oat flour into your diet can help boost your health in a variety of ways:

  • Help you feel full for longer – This controls your appetite, reduces the need for unnecessary snacking, and supports a healthy weight.
  • Reduce the risk for heart disease – Oat flour includes both soluble and insoluble fiber, which aids in lowering the risk of developing cardiovascular disease or coronary heart disease.
  • Helps lower bad cholesterol – Oat flour contains beta-glucans, which helps lower bad cholesterol. Beta-glucan is a highly glutinous soluble fiber, so it curbs the absorption of bad cholesterol when it travels along your small intestine.
  • Help manage diabetes – Clinical data show that oats, when consumed in moderation, can help people with blood sugar issues or type 2 diabetes control their blood sugar levels.

Supports normal blood pressure levels – Studies show that oat can help decrease both diastolic and systolic blood pressure, particularly in people with mild or borderline hypertension.

Cost & where to buy

Standard Process Cyruta Plus is available in two packages:

  • 90 tablets for $18.60 ($0.20 per tablet)
  • 360 capsules for $61.38 ($0.17 per tablet)

For those interested in buying this dietary supplement, there are a couple of ways of doing that.

First is through your healthcare practitioner. Standard Process sells mainly through various healthcare providers. More information is available on their official website here.

Second, you can order Cyruta Plus from several online retailers such as Walmart, Amazon, or eBay. Prices may differ from one store to another.

Product variations

Besides the “Plus” formulation, Cyruta is also available as a “Standard” formula. Standard Process Cyruta contains the same 3 mg of vitamin C but a slightly different proprietary blend that also includes inositol.

One bottle of Cyruta (90 tablets / 90 servings) costs $19.84, making it a bit more expensive than the “Plus” formulation. Cyruta is also less popular among customers, but the testimonials are still very positive.

Is Cyruta Plus safe?

Cyruta Plus is advertised as safe to take with no reported severe adverse effects.

Buckwheat can cause a reaction in individuals with buckwheat allergies. They may experience symptoms such as swelling in the mouth or hives when consuming buckwheat. However, reports of buckwheat allergies are rare in the U.S.

Overall, Cyruta Plus is likely safe for most people. Still, it is always recommended to speak to your healthcare provider before taking any dietary supplements.

Dosage and how to take Cyruta Plus

As a dietary supplement, take one (1) tablet per meal or as directed by your healthcare provider.

How it compares

Before we conclude our Cyruta Plus review, let’s take a quick look over several other cholesterol supplements that may represent good alternatives for those not convinced by this formulation’s benefits.

Citrus Bergamot Extract made by Double Wood Supplements – This affordable supplement uses a patented bergamot extract (Bergamonte) to help maintain healthy cholesterol levels, healthy blood glucose levels, increase HDL cholesterol, and promote healthy weight management.

One bottle of Citrus Bergamot Extract (60 capsules / 30 servings) costs $24.95 ($0.42 / capsule). If you order it from Amazon, you can also take advantage of the “Subscribe and Save” option for 10% to 15% off.

CholestOff Plus made by Nature Made – This is another less expensive alternative to Cyruta Plus. According to Nature Made, their plant-based supplement is clinically proven to lower cholesterol and promote heart health with just two softgels twice daily.

CholestOff Plus has received over 1,400 positive reviews on Amazon. However, the product often goes out of stock due to the high demand.

One bottle of Nature Made CholestOff Plus costs $27.99 ($0.28 / softgel).

Red Yeast Rice made by Fresh Nutrition – This complete cholesterol, cardiovascular health, and weight management supplement offers 500 mg of pure DNA verified red yeast rice extract per serving.

According to Fresh Nutrition, the red yeast rice extract has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. This is because it contains monacolins (particularly monacolin K), monounsaturated fatty acids (usually considered the ‘good’ fat), isoflavones (which are potent antioxidants), and sterols (incredible plant substances that help to control cholesterol).

Overall benefits may include cardiovascular health, lower cholesterol, improved digestion, improved blood circulation and sugar levels, and wellbeing.

One bottle of Fresh Nutrition Red Yeast Rice costs $14.99 ($0.17 / capsule).

The takeaway

Standard Process Cyruta Plus is one of the best cholesterol supplements available today. The formula is made by a company known for producing quality supplements using innovative methods and ingredients.

While a pretty basic combination of four active ingredients (if we count the vitamin C from buckwheat), the ingredients are blended well, and everything makes sense.

In fact, this is in line with what Standard Process does for its whole product line: no fillers or “fluff” ingredients added just because they read well on a label. Instead, their blends are well researched and proven to work synergistically to provide all the claimed benefits.

As a downside, because Cyruta Plus contains Cytosol (bovine extract), the supplement can’t be used by vegans and vegetarians. Also, some buyers complained about the product being too expensive but, when compared to other similar cholesterol supplements, Cyruta Plus is, in reality, decently priced.

As always, we recommend discussing with a medical doctor before trying Standard Process Cyruta Plus or any other dietary supplement.

Frequently Asked Questions

The difference is that Cyruta has inositol in the 340 mg proprietary blend, and Cyruta Plus does not include the inositol in its 308 mg proprietary blend. Other than that, they are very similar.

As a dietary supplement, take one (1) Cyruta Plus tablet per meal or as directed.

Cyruta Plus is not classified as a blood thinner, but it contains nutrients that support the cardiovascular system, including vitamin C, magnesium, and various bioflavonoids. These nutrients can help improve blood flow and support healthy blood vessel function. However, if you are taking medications that affect blood clotting or have a bleeding disorder, it is important to consult with a healthcare provider before taking any supplements, including Cyruta Plus.

According to Standard Process, the supplement works almost immediately. However, most users reported noticeable improvements in cholesterol levels within one to two weeks.

Cyruta Plus contains buckwheat that can cause a reaction in individuals with buckwheat allergies. However, these reactions are infrequent, so, overall, the product is likely safe for most people.

The tablets absorb moisture easily. It’s strongly recommended to store it in a dry place and keep the bottle tightly closed.

The product isn’t technically gluten-free since it contains oat flour. However, oats are considered safe for those with gluten intolerance or a gluten allergy.

All Standard Process supplements can be purchased through healthcare providers (sometimes for better prices). To find a healthcare practitioner in your area, simply use the tool available on the company’s official website here.

  • It says on my jar of Cyruta Plus it contains “ADRENAL EXTRACT” not “thymus extract”. (Cytosols are extracts from the cytoplasm of the cell, where we find the unique and critical components of the cell.) The Std Process website says the same. Better fact-check that again.
